December 2002 LASCAD 2.9 released!
New features:
  • To provide more comprehensive information on stress load and fracture mechanics the von Mises (or equivalent) stress and the stress intensity are computed, and can be shown graphically.
  • The file structure used with FEA has been changed. Until now FEA results have been written to a default directory, now the user can define directory names individually for different FEA runs.
  • Several menu commands have been generated to print spot sizes and resonator parameters to files for external use.
  • Interpolation of the FEA results for use with the BPM code has been improved by the use of a spline interpolation algorithm.
July 2002 LASCAD 2.8 released!
New features:
  • Among the new features is a stability diagram, which allows to show the effect of configuration parameters for instance of pump power on resonator stability. Further, the new version takes into account dependency of pump light absorption on polarization and crystal orientation. With the FEA code now for all configuration models two different materials can be involved where the second material can be an optical or a heat sink material.
LASCAD 2.8 is being presented at INTEROPTO'02.
May 2002 LASCAD 2.7 released!
New features:
  • Simulation of complex new generation DPSSL using laser crystals composed of different materials as well as of doped and undoped sections, including thin disk lasers, side pumped sandwiched slabs etc., which currently are being investigated to control and reduce thermal lensing effects in laser resonator design concepts.
  • An automatic meshing algorithm for fast and easy to handle Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of composite laser crystals is being offered behind a clearly organized GUI that only needs input of dimensions and material properties to start a highly complex code by a mouse click.

June 2001 LASCAD 2.6 released!
The program has been improved considerably with new much more flexible Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code. In combination with an ABCD gaussian beam propagation and a wave optics code the new FEA code allows modeling and design of laser cavities for diode pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL) with (dual)-end and side pumped rods, blocks, parallelepipeds, etc. Also the new FEA code easily can be adapted to include customized geometries.
